KOO CHEN-FU HOLDS A PRESS CONFERENCE IN TAIPEI, 1998-10-13 (photo)

Koo Chen-fu (L), chairman of Taiwan's state-funded Straits Exchange Foundation, adjusts his glasses before meeting journalists in Taipei October 13 on the eve of his mainland visit. Standing beside Koo is his deputy, Shi Hwei-yow who will follow Koo on the mainland visit. Koo will represent the Taiwan government to conduct dialogues with mainland Chinese President Jiang Zemin on October 18. He will also meet his mainland counterpart Wang Daohan of the Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Strait, the second meeting since the two held their historic 1993 talks in Singapore to improve cross-strait relations.
