Members of the opposition Mongolian People's Revolutionary Party (MPRP) celebrate at their headquarters in Ulan Bator earlier July 3 following the announcement of their landslide victory in the parliamentary election. The MPRP, who ruled for 75 years until the last election in 1996, capitalised on widespread disillusion with the ruling Democratic Coalition after four cabinet resignations and a series of corruption scandal. A decade of market-oriented reform has brought Mongolia steady economic growth. But poverty rates have been doubled since 1991, more than a third of the population lives on less than $10 a month.
