Norwegian consultant neuro surgeon Ostein Nygaard from the University of Trondheim (R) talks with the head of Gaza's main hospital neurosurgery unit Basel Becker during the brain operation on 11-year-old Palestinian boy Jehid Abu Shehmah November 15, 2000. Nygaard works with other Norwegian doctors as consultants to Palestinian brain surgeons and assists during operations in the hospital and in a field hospital. Jehid was shot through the head with a high velocity bullet by Israeli snipers which caused a " brain contusion." Doctors said there was no more hope for Jehid and would die in the next 24 hours. Palestinian hospital officials said some 7,000 Palestinians have been wounded in the violence, more than 40 percent of them under the age of 18 and at least 222 people, again most of them Palestinians, have been killed in the unrest.
