This original black and white photograph, taken on the steps leading to the rose garden at No.10 Downing Street in April 1951, shows the 'South African Goodwill Ambassadors', Prime Minister Clement Attlee's wife, Violet Attlee (C) and the South African ambassador of the time (top R) April 5, 2001. The 24 girls from mixed backgrounds were handpicked from 1,700 volunteers to travel through Europe following the war on a goodwill mission. The 17 remaining ladies re-visited No.10 Downing Street and in addition to having tea with the Prime Ministers wife Cheri Blair, they met Prime Minister Tony Blair.
