Image description

Piott Marks, Poland's only competitor in the World Transplant Games, carries his country's flag as he passes the Sydney Opera House for the games opening ceremony, September 29. The Games, which have attracted 1,200 competitors from 51 countries, are held every two years to promote the awareness of the need for organ and bone marrow donation and to demonstrate the high quality of life that is achieved following transplantation. The competitors who all have received transplants compete in events which include tenpin bowling, swimming, table tennis, squash, athletics, cycling and a road race. AUSTRALIA
