The United States on Tuesday identified a high risk of terrorist attack on the anniversary of the September 11 attacks, citing information from what it said was an Al Qaeda source of a possible suicide strike against U.S. interests in the Middle East. The warning comes on the eve of the anniversary of the attacks on New York and Washington, that killed around 3,000 people. Those attacks have been blamed on the al Qaeda network, headed by Osama bin Laden. There has been steep decline in air travel, partly because of delays caused by new airport security measures imposed after the attacks, which has contributed to the airline industry's staggering financial problems.
