A Jewish student (R) reaches to free the hands of Israeli police from the throat of his friend who is pushed down onto the bonnet of a parked car during the violent arrest of four students protesting outside the Knesset (parliament) against the 1998 budget January 1. Scores of students demonstrated against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu who agreed to some US$345 million in extra spending, much of it to his religious coalition partners in order to guarantee their support for the budget, which the students say comes at their expense.
