Rifle Salute, Pearl Harbor Anniversary, Hawaii (photo)

U.S. Marines with Marine Corps Base Hawaii, Kaneohe Bay perform a rifle salute during the 70th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, Dec. 7, 2011. Five thousand guests, including 125 Pearl Harbor survivors and other World War II veterans, attended the National Park Service and Navy-hosted joint memorial ceremony at the Pearl Harbor Visitor Center at the World War II Valor in the Pacific National Monument. The morning of Dec. 7, 1941, Japanese bombers staged a surprise attack on U.S. military forces in Hawaii. The day after the attack, before a joint session of Congress, President Franklin D. Roosevelt asked for a declaration of war against Japan and the U.S. officially entered World War II.
