Liberation of Europe First Women to land in France. Personnel of Queen Alexandra's Imperial Military Nursing Service were the first women to arrive on the Normandy beachhead. On June 13th, seven days after the initial landings of the Allied Expeditionary Forces, Lt Col Helm, of Colchester arrived with two sisters, their purpose was the setting up of a General hospital to house 600 patients, and with the assistance of Pioneers and the R.A.M.C the hospital was quickly established and is now functioning well. Shows Sister unpacking stores. Included in the pictures are Sister Ridgers, Mackay Causon and Bjorkman. Picture issued July 1944.
