Hyundai employee Kim Hung-sik relaxes in his well-appointed apartment as his daughter serves drinks in the southern Korean industrial city of Ulsan. With a roomy apartment, private car, almost eight weeks of annual leave and two daughters in university, Kim is satisfied with his job as a driver at Hyundai shipyards. While many South Koreans feel Hyundai employees had just cause to rise up against the military-style discipline and low pay of the company in 1987, now the once downtrodden shipyard and car workers have little public support in their current labour dispute with the government.
