South Koreans admire a Jaguar XK8 at the Seoul Motor Show April 24. Foreign carmakers have for years expressed their concerns of being targetted in "frugality campaigns" in South Korea. Both the European Union and the United States have attacked South Korea's government over what they call complicity in "frugality campaigns" which target foreign goods including cars. The campaigns are often spearheaded by religious and civic groups and are designed to curb imports and reduce a bloated trade defecit. Foreign car sales account for just over one percent of the total in South Korea. KOREA
