Relatives react after suspected Marxist rebels kidnapped at least 30 people September 17, 2000, after erecting makeshift roadblocks along a major highway outside Colombia's second-largest city of Cali. The mass abduction, the largest this year, recalled an incident in 1999 during which 160 worshipers were kidnapped from a church. Police said it was unclear whether today's kidnapping was the work of the National Liberation Army (ELN) or the larger Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), both left-wing guerilla groups fighting the Colombia government.
