The STGi 44 Sturmgewehr also known as the MP 43 and MP 44 (Maschinenpistole 43, Maschinenpistole 44). Considered the first assault rifle and widely issued to German troops in the latter part of the war. It was considered an excellent weapon but entered the war too late to effect the outcome for the Germans. It used the 7.92×33mm Kurz cartridge.
