Third Reich - German refugees from Poland 1939

The picture from a Nazi news report shows Volksdeutsch refugees fleeing from Poland crossing the border into Germany, August 1939. The original Nazi propaganda text on the back of the picture reads: "Escaping the ruthless Polish terror... They can feel rescued, happily, these refugees crossed the border. But their flight was su unexpected that in most cases, they were only able to take with them what they could carry." There was constant tension between Germany and Poland due to the division of German territory in Poland after World War One. It became critical in early 1939. The was clearly reflected in Nazi propaganda shortly before the German army attacked on 01 September 1939. The attack on Poland was the start of WWII
