Anne Bedingfeld (1651/2-1701) as a Carmelite Nun

Flemish School. Oil painting on canvas, Anne Bedingfeld (1651/2-1701) as a Carmelite Nun by Flemish School, late 17th century. Three-quarter-length figure of a young woman, standing and wearing the habit of a Carmelite nun, turned slightly to the right, gazing at the spectator. A prayer-book is held in her right hand which rests on the fingers of her left hand. At the right is a gilt-bronze bust of the Virgin of Sorrows (pierced by a sword - after ?Duquesnoy ?). A small drapery, like a curtain, is on the left. Inscription, top left, reads 'Anne, daughter of Sir Henry Bedingfeld, a nun at Ghent in Flanders'. (1651/2 - 1701). Caption below this later C17 portrait states 'Anne Bedingfeld, daughter of 1st Baronet, Carmelite nun at Lierre...' Oxburgh Hall, Norfolk (Accredited Museum)
