Portrait of a Little Girl, called Lady Mary Russell

attributed to Jacob Huysmans (Antwerp c.1630 – London 1696). Oil painting on canvas, Portrait of a Little Girl, called Lady Mary Russell, attributed to Jacob Huysmans (c.1633-c.1696). A three-quarter-length portrait of a young girl, turned towards the right and looking out at the spectator. She is located in a darkened, wooded setting and wears a loose, puce-coloured robe decorated with pearls and embroidery over a white chemise, a cloak of fine drapery flying out behind her. She carries a staff (or more probably a shepherd's crook) in her right hand and touches some roses with her left. Her hair is elaborately styled and she wears pearls in her ears and around her neck.
