Image of Kiraly street in the city center of Pecs, Hungary at the time – Austro-Hungary. The street was named after the catholic bishop Jozsef Kiraly (1737–1825). He was elected bishop of Pecs of 1807, where he remained until his death. He is known to be a patron of literature and science and a humanitarian and a contributor to social causes. The tram seen on the photo suggests that the image was taken after 1913, as the city had trams from 1913 to 1960. The scenery looks like Austro-Hungary. The street was given that name in 1864 and was a famous pedestrian zone. During communist rule in Hungary after 1945 it was renamed to Lajos Kossuth street. The name Kiraly street was restored in 1991.
