The last pirates. The British steamer Scian, while heading for Hong Kong, was attacked on the high seas by a band of Chinese pirates boarded before departure. After an hour's journey, the pirates ordered the helmsman to aim for a deserted spot on the Chinese coast, while the bulk of the gang robbed the passengers and looted the ship. When they arrived at a wild-looking bay, the pirates loaded their loot onto the lifeboats and reached the coast. Illustration for Courier Sunday, 3-10 December 1922.
