He suffered so serious injuries that the left leg had to be amputated. Herr Soukop is the Asst Elephant Keeper in the Munich Zoo and since 1 July 1951, he knew “his” fellow and his mind. When he noticed that August “impetously flirted” with Stasi, the young cowelephant, he got between them and sent them back to the stable. A short time after, Herr Soukop went into the stable to care for his” son”; the jealous beast, however, attached him from the rear, threw him in the air, and nearly killed him with his tusks
