Former Inn, Douglas, Isle of Man, 1932-34 (b/w photo)

On the back of this photograph John James Frowde writes, "Former Inn (Leach's second set) q.v. Kept by a man named Heelis (think Leach has it Feelis). Old lists of pubs have Heelis as prop[rietor], & I knew a man of that name some forty years back, whose bibulous habits would seem to indicate a 'son of the Manse', or rather Public House, which is not perhaps (precisely) necessarily the same thing. I remember noting in one of the old Guide Books, that a J. Heelis ran the principal hotel in Ramsey, 'directly facing the sea' in the forties of last century.
