Image description

Amalia of Solms-Braunfels (1602–75) was Princess consort of Orange by marriage to Frederick Henry, Prince of Orange and Count of Nassau, in grisaille, three-quarter-length, facing the spectator, in a décolleté dark dress, with slashed sleeves and lace frills, ribbon rosettes, a pearl drop necklace and a pendant jewel, resting her left arm on a stone ledge. Engraved by Woumans. From a set of grisaille portraits by Van Dyck of artists and distinguished persons, for engravers to work from. The panels, with the exception of M.188, are all in identical English 18th Century carved and gilded Palladian frames, with tongue-and-leaf outer edge and foliate sight edge.
