Inside the British post near Gyantse, 1904. Photograph by Major MacCarthy Reagh Emmet Ray, Tibet (1903-1904), 1904. The fortress (or jong) of Gyantse is visible in the background of this photograph of the British camp. Gyantse was captured on 6 July 1904 after a breach was eventually made in its walls by the mountain artillery. A force of Gurkhas and men from the Royal Fusiliers then stormed the fort after a short but bitter fight.
