A horse float presented to Army Veterinary Corps by the RSPCA, 1915 circa. Photograph, World War One, Western Front (1914-1918), 1915 circa. In 1914 the world’s oldest animal charity, the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA), set up the Fund for Sick and Wounded Horses. Over £250,000 was raised. This money bought the Army Veterinary Corps 13 operating theatres and 16 motor ambulances. The charity also sent waterproof rugs and 50,000 books on lameness and first aid to the front line.
