the four bosses on the domical form of this shield are typical of many other Qajar examples. there are three circular outer bands the middle of which contains figures of hunters. the four large polylobed medallions also contain mounted hunters two shooting an arrow and two aiming a dagger at a small lion on the back of his horse. between them are four half medallions. the central quatrefoil contains four rabbits around a cartouche. the decorative outer bands of this piece have crisscrossing curves-shield-steel inlaid with gold-inv.n.9998-Qajar Iran or teh Caucasus 19th century-MIA - 12 07 09 001
