Tomb of Qar (photo)

The tomb of Qar, numbered G 7101 in the Eastern Cemetery, lies to the west of the tomb of Idu, G 7102, and in the north of the entire Eastern Cemetery with its famous and prestigious tombs of the royal family of the Fourth Dynasty, e.g., the mastaba of prince Kawab, G 7110-7120, the tomb of Meresankh III, G 7530, and many other important tombs. This detail, depicted on the south jamb of the doorway leading to the offering chamber of Qar, shows Qar standing facing toward the offering chamber. He wears a shoulder-length flared wig, a short beard, a broad collar, a diagonal sash, and an A-line skirt. His right arm is raised forward in front of him, while his left arm hangs at his side. It appears that he is holding a scroll in his hand. Above the figure there are three columns of hieroglyphic inscription, which read: “Presenting offerings by the elder lector priest, Qar.
