He later founded the French Fifth Republic in 1958 and served as its first president from 1959 to 1969. Dwight David "Ike" Eisenhower (1890-1969) was the 34th President of the United States from 1953 until 1961. Maurice Couve de Murville (1907-99) was a French diplomat and politician who was Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1958 to 1968 and Prime Minister from 1968 to 1969 under the presidency of General de Gaulle. Christian Archibald Herter (1895-1966) was an American politician and statesman; 59th governor of Massachusetts from 1953 to 1957, and United States Secretary of State from 1959 to 1961.
