A memorial woodcut celebrating the passage of Holy Roman Emperor Maximilian into eternal life. He is kneeling in front of Christ and in the presence of the Virgin and Child, surrounded by Habsburg family saints including Andrew, Barbara, George, Leopold, Maximilian and Sebastian. The Latin text below the woodcut describes his many titles and territories and his date of death, followed by laudatory verses. Despite its popular format, this print was likely distributed to members of the imperial court and other nobles in commemoration of the emperor, rather than being sold or posted.
