Tue 03, 1954 - The Chimney Sweep Salutes With His Brush His Hat Is Otherwise Occupied: Police Supt. Ernst Werft, of Schleswig Holstein, Germany instructed his men to follow the Old custom of saluting good-luck sweep usually saluted in return but not with the traditional hat-raising.. He held an inquiry - and discovered the reason to that the sweeps used their top hats as containers for eggs - bacon - beer etc.. give by grateful customers..
