U.S. DELEGATION ARRIVES FOR BAY OF PIGS CONFERENCE IN CUBA, 2001-03-21 (photo)

Arthur Schlesinger (L), a former assistant in the administration of U.S. President John F. Kennedy, stands with Cuban Vice-President Jose Ramon Fernandez, on arrival March 21, 2001 in Havana for an academic conference forty years after the failed, CIA-backed Bay of Pigs invasion of Cuba in April, 1961. Dozens of former Kennedy administration officials, CIA agents and participants in the 2506 Brigade invasion force, will join their Cuban counterparts, as well as scholars on both sides, for a three-day meeting where they will exchange research and experiences from what was one of the Cold War's most notorious battles.
