Video description

A BBC broadcast explaining to the British public the West Indians' contribution to the Second World War. Jamaican activist, poet and broadcaster Una Marson introduces Ulric Cross, a Trinidadian navigator with the Royal Air Force Bomber Command (later representing Trinidad and Tobago as High Commissioner in the UK), at Broadcasting House, London. He describes to listeners of a popular BBC radio series, 'Calling the West Indies', how people from the Caribbean are supporting the war effort in the Allied forces. The clip features in the film 'West Indies Calling', produced for the Ministry of Information by Paul Rotha Productions. Una Marson was the first Black producer at the BBC.
