Image description

Centrepoint Tower is visible behind three workmen preparing to dismantle a section of the 33 metre-high main mast of the partially-restored James Craig ship in Sydney July 1 in order for the 115 year-old iron barque vessel to sail under the 30-metre-high Anzac Bridge and out into Sydney Harbour next month. The 70 metre long three-masted vessel, originally built in Scotland, will still be the tallest mastered sailing ship in the country after the mast is partially dismantled, and is the only 19th century square-rigged vessel still sailing anywhere in the Southern Hemisphere. Restoration is due to be completed in March next year at a cost of more than A$11 million (US$7.15 million). DG/CC
