Image title
Various factual engraving on the cover of the illustrious supplement of La Depeche de Toulouse, n. 15, 22 May 1898: A terrible automobile accident - “” In the Perigueux car race to Mussidan which took place on 3 May, M. the Marquis de Montaignac, recognizing in another automobile one of his friends, M. de Montauriol, brought his car closer to that of the latter to shake his hand; the two cars came too close to each other, a shock occurred which overturned Mr. de Montauriol's car. He had had time to jump to the ground, but his servant fell with the car into the pit bordering the road, without hurting himself. M. de Montaignac, who had continued to walk, turning back to be aware of the accident, gave up for a moment the direction of his car which went on and fell in his turn into the pit, taking away M. de Montaignac, who was killed instantly and his servant, who was very grievously wounded but whom we hope to save.”
