1882//Oil on canvas
The only son of the artist and his wife Vera, Yuri Ilyich Repin (1877-1954), was born in Chuguev. In this portrait, Yuri poses naturally, comfortably seated between the folds of a Turkmen carpet, arranged in her father's studio for his painting Ivan the Terrible. Here, the painter details with equal attention the chubby face of the child, his jacket with gold buttons and his furry ankle boots. As an adult, Youri Répine pursued a career as a painter, without however achieving the notoriety of her father.
