KFOR SOLDIERS INSPECT SITE WHERE THREE PEOPLE WERE KILLED NEAR LIPLJAN IN KOSOVO, 2000-08-02 (photo)

Unidentified Kfor soldiers guard the site where three Gypsies were killed and two injured when their vehicle drove over a mine in the village of Mali Alas near Lipljan August 2, 2000. The two injured people were taken to a British military hospital, a spokeswoman for British peacekeepers there said. Mali Alas is a mixed Romany (Gypsy) and Albanian village. There was no immediate indication of who might have planted the mine. Kosovo Serbs and other minorities like the Romany, who are seen as their allies, have been frequently attacked by Albanians, angry at years of Serb repression, since NATO-led peacekeepers took de-facto control of the province last June.
