Taiwan Central Bank's monetary bureau director Wu Shaw-chii holds up a pair of new T$1,000(US$32.4) banknote in Taipei June 29. The new banknote will be launched July 3, the first step of a total revamp of Taiwan's currency for the new millennium which will preserve images of two towering figures in Chinese history, Sun Yat-sen and "generalissimo" Chiang Kai-shek, on two smaller banknotes, but will drop Chiang's image from the T$1,000 and T$500 notes.
