Image description: Dysphoria is an emotional state characterised by anxiety or unease. The term is sometimes used by transsexuals to describe the gender identity crisis they experience. Elizabeth Rowe has shown herself in a frilly, feminine dress surrounded by emblems of female domestic life. The broken necklace on the floor, however, suggests a sense of dislocation. A feeling of unease is also produced by the dark background of the scene. Elizabeth Rowe worked as an artist for many years in the North East;
