The Dawn of Life, building a Home. The earliest inhabitants of India appear as small, black, curly-haired, nomadic savages, entirely naked, or habited in short leaf skirts and ornaments made of natural objects. They lived in leaf shelters and obtained their living from roots, seeds and fruits, and killed small birds, animals and fish, which they secured by means of spears, arrows and adzes tipped with teeth and flakes of hard, natural materials.
