PROTESTERS VOICE DISAPPROVAL OF TOBACCO BILL C-71, 1997-03-04 (photo)

Protesters take to the downtown streets of Montreal March 4 to voice their disapproval of the federal government's proposed bill to restrict tobacco advertising and promotional spending at festivals and sporting events. Many downtown shops, restaurants and taxi's closed down for fifteen minutes to protest the Bill C-71, which could be the end of many of Montreal's festivals, and the millions of tourism dollars they bring to the city. The Montreal International Jazz Festival, the Grand Prix of Montreal, and the Just for Laughs Comedy Festival all receive major funding from tobacco sponsors. QUEBEC TOBACCO
