At the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Swiss Air Force at Duebendorf military airport on 27 June 1964, four Hawker Hunter Mk.58 Stafeln fighter planes of the Swiss Army Surveillance Squadron were ready for action. Helicopters fly in the sky. The enthusiastic audience spontaneously named the squadron Patrouille Suisse after the French Patrouille de France. The Swiss Military Department (EMD) was convinced of the public appeal of the formation flight and therefore decided to appoint the Patrouille Suisse as the official national aerobatics team. Patrouille Suisse was founded two months later on 22 August 1964
