Switzerland Cast Romanese Message, 1955 (b/w photo)

Special units of the police, media people and onlookers in February 1955 in front of the Romanian embassy in Bern. In February 1955, armed Romanians in exile occupied the Romanian embassy in Bern in a spectacular action. Their aim is to hand over the embassy archives to a Western secret service and to capture the embassy personnel in order to exchange them for political prisoners in Romania. The final failed robbery, in which the chauffeur Aurel Setu dies, provokes the protest of Romania, which leads to a press campaign against Switzerland. The latter reacted with stricter entry conditions for Romanians. Here the squatters are finally put into the police car, second from the left, below the eyes of investigators and onlookers and taken away.
