35th Mountain Battery at Moghal Kot, Waziristan Campaign, 1919 circa. Photograph, North West Frontier, India, 1919 circa. After the Indian Mutiny of 1857-1859, artillery units in the Indian Army were manned by British soldiers, with the exception of the mountain batteries. In this image, two artillery pieces, manned by the 35th Mountain Battery, are being readied for action. The battery were part of an Indian Army force that took part in the campaign in Waziristan in 1919-1920 to re-establish British control of the border areas. The 35th Battery was part of the force, under the command of Brigadier-General Worgan, responsible for guarding the lines of communication of the Derajat Column. From an album of 116 photographs taken and compiled by T M Layng, 62nd Brigade, Waziristan Force, May 1919 to September 1920.
