Francis Crick (l) (8 June 1916 – 28 July 2004), British molecular biologist, biophysicist, and neuroscientist, with James Watson (r) (b. April 6, 1928), American molecular biologist, geneticist and zoologist. In 1953, the pair co-authored an academic paper proposing the double helix structure of the DNA molecule. Together with Maurice Wilkins they were jointly awarded the 1962 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine "for their discoveries concerning the molecular structure of nucleic acids and its significance for information transfer in living material". Included as an insert accompanying the sale of a letter from Francis Crick to his son announcing the remarkable discovery.
