Second Anglo-Dutch War (Anglo-Dutch) 1665-67: Dutch attack on Harwich (England), July 1667, Lieutenant Admiral Michiel de Ruyter, commander of the Dutch fleet, reiterates his exploit of the Chatham raid, this second attempt was a failure due to bad weather conditions and the bombing of the fort was revealed completely ineffective. The painting describes the Dutch fleet anchored off Harwich: 'Gouden Leeuw' 42 cannons, 'Zeven Provincien' and the 'Walcheren', 68 guns each, and the large 'Zeven Provincien', 80 guns. Oil painting, from 1669, by Willem van de Velde the Elder (1611-1693).
