BRONZE STATUE OF SOLDIER ERECTED IN SYDNEY, 2000-04-24 (photo)

The bronze statue, to be unveiled tomorrow, weighs two tonnes, took four months to sculpt and spent four-and-a-half months at a city foundry being cast. The soldier is depicted in the "Rest on Arms Reversed" postion and will be a permanent tribute to the Australian men and women who died in conflict. Australia will honour their war dead and survivors in the nation's annual ANZAC memorial parades and services throughout the country. WB
