Image description

Germany's Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer (L) listens to Saif al Islam, son of Libyan leader Mohammar Gaddafi at a private residence of the president of the Gaddafi International Charity organisation in Tripoli September 13, 2000. Fischer made a stop in Tripoli on his way to the United Nations general assembly in New York later this week to express his thanks for the release of the three Germany Abu Sayyaf hostages who were held in captivity since April this year on a remote jungle island on the Phillipines. A group of four westerners were released after Libya reportedly paid millions of dollars to free the hostages through the International Gaddafi Foundation. Two French TV crew members, one U.S. American and one Filipino are still being held in captivity.
