The FIFA Collection This collection of football memorabilia was assembled by Harry Langton, a London journalist with a passion for the game. Finding a home for the huge collection was one of the driving forces behind the foundation of the Museum. Marvellous Memorabilia

It was 150 years ago that The Football Association was founded on 26 October 1863 at the Freemasons’ Tavern in London as the governing body of football in England. For centuries before there were no universally accepted rules for playing football. In each public school the game was formalised according to local conditions; but when the schoolboys reached university, chaos ensued when the players used different rules. Thanks to the Football Association, the sport has developed dramatically, with strong progress made for the equality of disabled and female players. |

Football officially recognised as central to English culture and society
This year the National Football Museum has been awarded official Designation by the Arts Council, the first time a sporting collection has been granted this status. Bridgeman has proudly represented this collection of football treasures for image licensing since 2008.
