Description
The Battle of Prestonpans was the first significant conflict in the 1745 Jacobite Rising on 21st September. The Jacobites loyal to James Francis Edward Stuart were led by his son Charles Edward Stuart and defeated the government army loyal to the Hanoverian George II led by Sir John Cope, who were outflanked in the face of a highland charge. Initially known as the Battle of Gladsmuir, it was actually fought at Prestonpans, East Lothian Soldiers' wives awaiting the results of the battle?
