Lancaster Sands, also called Ulverston Sands, extend between Lancaster and Ulverston at the head of Morecombe Bay. David Cox visited Lancaster and the Sands in 1834, 1835 and 1840, where, inspired by Turner, he produced numerous oil sketches and watercolours, of which this may, however, be an imitation.
