Date
1954 (C20th)
Description
It was the first test of the TX-17 thermonuclear weapon (initially the "emergency capability" EC-17), the first deployed U.S. thermonuclear bomb. Operation Castle was an American nuclear weapon test series, which in 1954 was carried out predominantly on the Bikini Atoll in the Pacific. The tests Bravo and Yankee are still the most nuclear weapons tests that have ever performed the United States. Because of the many images that were taken during the operation, in particular the Bravo and the Romeo test have become a byword of the hydrogen bomb.
