Irish rebel chief's surrender: First photographs. A newspaper report regarding the arrest of participants of the Easter Rising, also known as the Easter Rebellion, an armed insurrection staged in Ireland during Easter Week, 1916. John MacBride was not a member of the Irish Volunteers, but upon the beginning of the Rising he offered his services to Thomas MacDonagh, and was appointed second-in-command at Jacob's biscuit factory when that post was surrendered on Sunday, 30 April 1916. He was executed on 5 May 1916. Patrick Pearse. Commander in Chief of the Irish forces. He was executed on 3 May 1916. Constance Georgine Markievicz, Countess Markievicz ( 868 - 15 July 1927) was an Irish Sinn Fein and Fianna Fail politician, revolutionary nationalist, suffragette and socialist. In December 1918, she was the first woman elected to the British House of Commons, though she did not take her seat. Joseph Mary Plunkett: Born 1887, Director of Military Operations, was executed on 4 May 1916. He had two brothers who joined him in the Easter Rising and later became important IRA men.
